Saint Patricks Day

Saint Patrick’s Day

Every Saint has a feast day and one of these days is Saint Patrick's day, it is an important day.

Saint Patrick’s day is the feast day of Saint Patrick and it is naturally celebrated at Saint Patrick's School. This year they celebrated by separating the students into groups and having activities in each class. There are were six groups, Dongalls, Emeralds, Tipperary's, Leprechauns, Litericks and Shamrocks.

The first activity was bowling and the rules were simple. Each person got two shots and the team with the most points won. The second activity was making shamrocks. You trace a shamrock on a piece of paper and choose words to write on it on the board and colour it in. The third activity was fishing. People had to fish for letters and the team that makes the most words won.

The fourth activity was making a pot o’ gold at the end of a rainbow. You had to get a cardboard and a piece of paper that had a rainbow on it. After cutting out the rainbow it had to be stuck on to the cardboard that was shaped like a rainbow. Next you had to stick some cotton one one side and cut a small line on the other side. The teacher put a plastic container on it then she puts some lollies in the container.

The fifth activity is sponge painting a cardboard shamrock. You picked three colours and you painted them in the three sides with a sponge. The final activity is making leprechaun bookmarks. The teachers gave out points to each group and the team that has the most points wins.

This year Donegals won. Which team do you think would win next year?

Feelings

LI: I am learning how to write an explanation.
Some people swear when they are angry and some people punch something when they are angry.

When people are angry, they clench their fist and have a solid face. Some people even break things and swear. Some people hit people when they are angry at certain people and some little kids get angry over the most dumb stuff like how they ate the last piece of chip but they were actually saving it.

When people are sad, they cry and tears drip from their eyes. Little kids say wah when they cry and start sniffling. Some people have to drink water to stop crying and some people keep on crying even though they're not sad anymore.

When people are happy, they have sunny face and smile. Some people chuckle and laugh when the see or hear something funny.(To them.) Some people even laugh at other people mistakes and pain!

When people are scared, they have a horrified face and scream “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!” To scare someone, they usually go “Boo!” When they least expect or a jump scare. For example, some just walking “Lalalalala.” And then suddenly some goes “Rah!” in front of them and then the other person goes “Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!”

Con: These are some of the emotions that we have. Can you explain any other emotions?

Dragons

Dragons

There are many mythical creatures and one of them is the dragon.

Dragons are strange creatures and most people know dragons as a big green thing with wings that breath fire

and yes that is one of the types of dragons but there is another type of dragon and they look different. These dragons look more serpentine (like a snake) and some of them have wings but some of them don’t.
In Chinese mythology, a dragon was married to a feng huang (Chinese Phoenix) and yes, it is a weird combination but there is a meaning. In the Han Dynasty, there were two birds, a male named Feng and a female named Huang. Later in the Yuan Dynasty, they merged and became Fenghuang and translated in to Phoenix. The Fenghuang was known as the King of birds but they recognised it as an empress and was paired up with a dragon which was recognised as the emperor.

As I mentioned, there are different types of dragons. One of them is the European dragon and they look big, have wing and breath fire.
Another one is the chinese dragon that looks more like a snake.
And the last type is the Japanese dragon and they are in Japanese mythology and folklore.
